To meet current demands for clean energy, Woodruff Scientific, Inc. has designed and patented an innovative design for a fusion power generation system under contract to the U.S. Department of Energy. By virtue of being highly compact, the fusion power core has lower unit cost and operational cost than existing concepts, and will create a price point in volume which will meet the needs of power utilities and large-scale propulsion worldwide.

This highly compact power core emulates a single cylinder diesel engine which compresses deuterium and tritium fuel to ignition temperatures. The hot fuel is isolated from the combustion chamber walls by magnetic fields, and heat released during compression is captured in a usual thermal cycle to generate electricity.
